Aluminum Fuel Surge Tanks

Picture top left is one example of Fuel Surge Tanks manufactured by JC Performance. The need for a fuel surge tank comes about when the level in the main fuel tank is decreased to a point that under cornering, acceleration and inclines, the main fuel pickup is briefly uncovered. This is very detrimental to a fuel injected vehicle. The engine literally "runs out of gas" causing the engine to go lean and shut off. Carbureted applications are also affected, but not as quickly.

JC Performance can build any size tank. Usually the size of the tank depends on the conditions that the car will be subjected to and the space available. Normally a tank that holds one to two quarts is sufficient. Based on a 400 hp engine requirement with a BSFC of .5 yields a requirement of 200 lbs of fuel per hour or 3.33 pds per minute. A one quart tank would supply fuel for approximately 28 seconds and a 2 quart for approximately 56 seconds of wide open throttle. A low fuel situation seldom lasts very long, making it difficult to run the surge tank out of fuel.

The additional parts you see above are the KRC power steering reservior and Vortech Super FMU.
When the fuel condition in the main tank returns to normal the surge tank is refilled. These small tanks are very good at keeping your engine alive and keeping the internals happy.

Our tanks are made-to-order and can be provided with any number of bungs installed per your requirements.
